No. 6 RCAF Dunnville Museum
Haldimand County’s newest museum opened to the public on July 5th, 2003, with an aim to help preserve the history of the No. 6 Service Flying Training School. The base in Dunnville, one of the 28 constructed across Canada, is one of the few remaining examples of British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) bases. It’s preservation ensures that future generations can learn how the BCATP contributed towards the freedom we all enjoy today.
The museum is dedicated to the more than 2,500 men and women who served at the school from 1940-1944. Uniforms, pictures, memorabilia and artifacts of this era are displayed in the museum. There are also a North American Yale and DeHavilland Tiger Moth on display in the hangar.
On July 4th, 2004, a Harvard memorial and gardens were dedicated to the memory of the 47 airmen who lost their lives while training at the No. 6 SFTS in Dunnville. No. 6 RCAF members volunteered many hours to reconstruct the Harvard from parts and to design and build the gardens.
Hours of Operation:
The museum is open weekends and holidays from Victoria Day weekend to Labour Day weekend, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tours can be arranged at other times by calling to make an appointment. School and group tours are welcome.
